 CQ WPX contests are very challenging world-wide amateur radio competitions. The contest held on 13th-14th Feb.2010 was again interesting with better radiocomm conditions as it was usual during last years.
Broaden openning of 21 MHz band more hours during the day influenced the contest tactics not so much stay on usual 14 MHz band but to go on 'suprising' higher frequencies. My target was to reach more as 500 contacts with more as 500.000 points total to beat my best result from the last year 2009. Taken into account the contest scoring policy with preferred lower bands here was absolutely necessary to improve performance on 80/40m bands. After exhausting contest hours the result was more as satisfactory - total more as 600 contacts with 724,464 points. |

Each amateur radio New Year in RTTY contesting starts with famous ARRL(American Radio Relay League) Round-up Contest. Following my participation in some last years I took part on this contest during Jan. 2nd/3rd 2010. Expectations about better radio wave propagation awaked with 2009 Nov./Dec. raising sun activity unfortunatelly were not right proved. But twelve hours operation brought some interesting contacts and finally my best summary result in latest 4 years.

New version 2.2.1 of JotLoader is now available in download section. One of new functions is possibility to force registration of front-end users before file download. On component settings page can be done some related assignments : 
If this option is checked, JotLoader will allow downloading files only for registred users. For unregistred users click on download shall force redirect to processing link (e.g. article containing announcement about compulsory registration or direct link to registration page). When no processing link is set then only short pop-up message is given about this requirement. Here are implemented also some other new features and improvements: - routing for Joomla SEF operation
- files scanning in front-end
- page intro text for the list of downloads

After months of designing, coding and testing the desired target was met. New generation of SearchLog Joomla component, used for presentation of Amateur Radio logs on the web sites, is now available on Download page. Starting from first encouragement by Kevin N5DX, continued with very cordial supportive activities of Hans SMØIMJ, pre-release testing by Ton PA1CC and John IW6ATQ it was possible to prepare web log with some sophisticated features. Thanks all for their commitment.
In SearchLog, ver.2.x it was possible to include following data items : contact callsign, band, transmission mode and status of confirming of QSO via QSL card (none as blank, sent, received, confirmed on both sides). In this version of SearchLog was used compressing method for store and display of QSO contacts. Duplicate contacts between same station call and callsign were "compressed" to only one record in database.
New SearchLog ver.3.x allows to use described operation type (here named as Basic) but also storing the QSO data one-to-one into database with possibility to assign data to specific activities (contests, expeditions, special occassions, etc.) - Extended type of operation. Using both types of operation supports easy migration from SearchLog ver.2.x as well as it allows in Basic type saving the database size and processing time when this type of QSO presentation is evaluated as sufficient (mostly for award hunters). In SearchLog ver.3.x is fully reengineered against older versions in administration part as well as frontend where new features covers partial search, result pagination, column sorting and inclusion of QSO audio files.

Based on note of Jari(OH8LQ - http://www.oh8lq.com/) which is preparing new Joomla ham web site here is upgraded version of SearchLog - 3.0.3. It is maintenance version with small changes related to audio files presentation on the site :
- audio files containing / (slash) in callsign e.g. 5B/G3RXQ with audio file as 5B~G3RXQ 10-24-09 - 16 10 59.wav are now correct processed and displayed
- description in Help file for audio files settings is extended
Only when you are using audio files presentation with SearchLog component the upgrade is needed. New component version you can find on SearchLog download page.

World-wide amateur radio contesting has each year some top contests belonging to "Grand Slam" category (when speak of tennis fans is used). During last weekend (26.-27.Sept.2009) was held CQ World Wide RTTY contest attracting thousands of RTTY contesting freaks to 48 hours long match. Solar activity was very changing during these days bringing some suprise and disturbances as well. With much of endurance I got the best result of my last years contesting with 570 QSO of which 50% were first-time contacts at all. |
