The low sun activity, far behind all known predictions (flux around 72), has nowadays frustrating influence on all radio amateur community. My participation on German DL DX Contest during weekend 3rd-4th July 2010 was motivated with with good intent to make some new DXCC contacts. My attitude was to reach better result as it was gained last year in this contest with total 344 QSO and more as 400 t. points. But I left far behind this target making only 276 QSO and 307530 total points.
In quite full dry desert of radio waves propagation only three notable contacts have been rising heart beat up - from South Africa ZS2Y(21MHz), Phillipines DV1JM(14MHz) and absolute surprise was FO8RZ, Tahiti, French Polynesia, comming to my first call on 14 MHz Sunday morning at 4:39 UTC. I could not believe to screen printing confirmation from FO8RZ about sucessfull QSO.
Here is necessary to mention the high ham spirit of all three mentionend operators - already in Sunday 4th July 2010 I had QSO confirmations in LoTW logbook. Looking for other resources I found the remarkable stories of FO8RZ on http://f5phw.hamlogs.net/index.php and ZS2Y on http://www.zs2y.co.za/.
Distance for FO8RZ/OM1VA communication channel is 16371 kilometers or 10173 miles or 8840 nautical miles. Time difference could not be more as it is +12 hours.
